The “On Time” and “In Time” Delivery Blog

Astrid Bennett Claas

Can you all actually remember when the expression JIT (Just in Time) was created and became widely used in industry? I can’t, it seems to be around forever and over the decades JIT has become more and more important.

We all want our goods NOW or at least as quickly as possible. This presents an enormous challenge to every manufacturer and retailer and only the best logistic system will be able to fulfil customers’ expectations. The biggest challenge however is for those manufacturers who cannot hold stocks or prepare shipments in advance, be it for perishable items or for temperature sensitive goods etc.

This challenge also exists for the production of Dry Ice Pellets, it has to be produced fresh to be at its best and it can not be stored as otherwise it will evaporate over a given time. This means administration, production, despatch and logistics all have to be organised like clockwork to work efficiently in order to fulfil customers’ requirements.

Last year saw an investment of two large capacity production machines in our factory. The benefit of this has been significant as we can produce bigger quantities faster and are therefore able to handle even late incoming orders on the same day. Obviously there are limitations, not everything is possible and we all have to be careful not to promise the impossible. We are always honest with our customers and if we can not do it we say so. In a nutshell and to bring it to the point we have created a slogan which we have made our aspiration:

“If we can make it today it can be delivered today”

I should also differentiate between delivered and shipped, as there is obviously a difference. Small orders which are sent out by courier are shipped on the same day the order is received for delivery the next day. Our online ordering system gives the details and also the cut off time for deliveries next day. The important thing is though we are able to deliver small quantities locally and bigger quantities further afield the SAME DAY the order is placed. We are working with an excellent transport/courier service who is able to deliver at short notice so the dry ice can leave our factory just hours after the order has been received. Please talk to our friendly staff who will tell you all about it and help you to get your delivery just when you need it.

Not everything is possible but what is we will make possible – our promise to you.
